The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is a way for citizens of the Village of Addison to help in case of emergency. CERT educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. Once trained, CERT members can then form teams to assist rescuers throughout the Village of Addison.
The CERT program is a joint project between the Addison Fire Protection District, the Addison Police Department and the Village of Addison. If you are interested in becoming a member of CERT, please contact Lieutenant Jeff Pluta from the Addison Fire Protection District at 630-628-3100 or Addison police officers Marie Hernandex, Omar Brucal or Danielli Peterson at 630-543-3080.
